Chew Hui Jin

Hi there, I'm Jin. I'm an interior designer. Nice to meet ya.

Binti is a women's health awareness centre with the purpose to normalize menstruation, and to encourage people to discuss the topic without feeling shameful. Consequently, helping women and girls forming healthy relationships with their own bodies.
Period poverty is a global issue affecting women and girls who do not have access to safe, hygienic sanitary products, and who are unable to manage their periods with dignity, due to social stigma. It is not solely about a person's inability to afford menstrual products, but also the limitation of sanitary products. Besides, women and girls are always receiving inaccurate information regarding menstruation due to the lack of education. This is a major concern as it will be affecting their health.
In order to mitigate the issues, the project aims to create a safe space for everyone to talk about the menstrual problems they face. In addition, the project is intended to break the social stigma surrounding menstruation with education. Binti will be providing workshops to public.
Not only that, Binti will also offer diagnosis and recommending treatments to people in need.
The design concept of the project is Destigmatize. The definition of destigmatize is to remove association of shame or disgrace. Motion of breaking glass is used to embody the process of destigmatizing. As a result of destigmatization, confidence and power will be rejuvenated. The design overall is showing the process from destigmatize to rejuvenate.
